How Effective Is Laser Liposuction?

Do you exercise regularly and follow a strict, nutritious diet, but that stubborn fat still won’t go away? You may want to look a little closer into laser liposuction. Here at Ideal Face & Body in Beverly Hill, CA, we aim to please our clients with non-invasive cosmetic procedures, leaving them feeling their confident best. Let’s look at some facts regarding this safe and innovative treatment.

How Effective Is Laser Liposuction?

This treatment yields great results, eliminating between 20-23% of the fat cells in a large targeted area, while up to 80% of fat cells are destroyed when focusing on an isolated, small area. The number of sessions required will be different for each individual, however, as everyone’s genetic makeup and level of fat composition is different.

With that being said, it is typical for small areas, such as around the knees and elbows to require only one session. For larger areas such as the abdomen or buttocks, multiple sessions will be required.

How Efficient Is This Treatment?

This treatment is highly efficient but is most noticeable for areas with at least five pounds of fat or more. If you are unsure, feel welcome to drop by our office for an initial consultation if you are local. You can always ask your healthcare provider to check it for you at your next visit or simply purchase fat-measuring calipers online. Many workout gyms may also provide this service for free, especially if you are a full-time member.

How Does It Work?

This treatment works by shrinking the fat cells, rather than removing them, as in the case of traditional liposuction procedures. Laser liposuction is much safer and less invasive, allowing the client to walk away after each treatment session.

The heat energy from the fiber-optic laser light penetrates deep into the fat cells, puncturing holes into the membranes of the cells, thus destroying them. The liquified fatty acids, glycerol, and water from the fat cells either drains out of the body through the lymphatic system or gets burned up as energy. Perhaps a good visual might be a grape shriveling up into a raisin.

What Is the Duration of One Treatment Session?

The general rule of thumb is approximately one hour per session, treating only one area. However, this can vary based upon the following four factors:

  1. Size of the area being targeted
  2. Amount of fat to be eliminated
  3. Your body’s fat distribution
  4. Number of areas being treated

What Areas Are Most Responsive to Laser Liposuction?

Laser lipo can benefit any area of the body that stores fat. The most common areas of treatment are the large areas of the hips, buttocks, back, waistline, and abdomen. However, there are many other smaller areas that are ideal and often requested including the upper arms, under the chin, backs of the knees, or the calves.

Does This Treatment Cause Much Pain?

Not only is this treatment non-painful, it can be downright relaxing. The laser light simply heats up the targeted area, causing a warming sensation in the surrounding muscles. It is somewhat comparable to a hot stone massage. Regardless, all skincare specialists offer a local anesthetic to their clients upon request, though it isn’t really necessary.

How Long Before I Can See Results?

Traditional liposuction procedures require at least 6-12 months for healing and swelling to diminish for visual results. Laser lipo, on the other hand, yields satisfying results in as little as 4-6 weeks. With laser lipo, you can walk out of the clinic the same day and begin showing off your beautiful dream body in about a month. Another advantage to laser treatment is that it allows your skin time for natural contouring, as the liquified fat is gradually drained out of the body via the lymphatic system.

With traditional liposuction, the drastic shrinkage causes the stretched skin to sag, since it has not had a chance to conform to the suddenly smaller area. This often requires additional cosmetic surgery or massage therapy to address the sagging skin.  An additional benefit of laser lipo is the effect that the fiber-optic laser energy has on the cells. The heat energy boosts the production of collagen-producing cells, resulting in firmer, plumper skin. You end up getting a one-two punch benefit with one treatment.

Are the Results Long-Lasting?

The results of treatment are considered permanent since the fat cells are permanently destroyed. Your adult body cannot grow new fat cells. The same is true of traditional liposuction, as the fat cells are permanently removed.  All clients are counseled as to the importance of maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle, to prevent accumulating fat in their remaining fat cells. This should be taken into consideration before electing to undergo this treatment, to be sure you are willing to do your part in maintaining the satisfying results, following treatment.

How Do You Maintain Your Weight Following Treatment?

Many clients find it helpful to begin journaling their daily diets and lifestyles so that they can pinpoint their failures, triggers, and changes. Most of us crave different types of foods for different reasons. Some cravings are triggered by stress, depression, anxiety, boredom, or perhaps even a sugar addiction. Regardless of the reason, we must learn to control when, what, and how much we consume, in order to maintain a healthy and fit body.

If you learn to listen to your body, it will let you know what it is craving. Our bodies are amazing in that they can be reprogrammed to behave and respond differently. Special low-carb diets, such as the Keto or Paleo diet, are encouraged to retrain your body to crave fewer carbohydrates. In this way, you can gain the upper hand and control your body, rather than allowing your body and cravings to control your responses and eating habits.

How Do I Minimize My Weightloss?

Most clients seeking laser lipo have obtained a regular diet program to attain their ideal weight, but need a little help getting rid of the stubborn fat that refuses to leave. For this reason, many find that they continue losing weight once their treatments are completed. If you find yourself having this problem, you can increase your calorie intake until you reach your desired goal.

It is recommended to stay within 10 pounds of your ideal weight following post-treatment. A good tip to follow is to calculate your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) for your ideal weight, based on your height and activity level.  Adhere to this daily calorie intake to gradually gain weight.

A Tip for Gaining Weight

If maintaining the TDEE for your body weight goal becomes difficult, we suggest eating a protein-rich snack before bed, loaded with lots of calories. Your body has time to store this since you burn fewer calories during sleep. Snacks high in protein might include some of the following:

  • Peanut butter
  • Various nuts
  • Protein snack/meal bars
  • Trail mix
  • Jerky
  • Cheese slices
  • Greek yogurt
  • Hard-boiled eggs
  • Whole Milk
