How Do You Fix Droopy Eyelids? 16 Things to Know About Getting an Eyelid Lift

At Ideal Face and Body in Beverly Hills, CA, one of the most commonly performed anti-aging procedures is the eyelid lift. Also known as an eye lift or blepharoplasty, this procedure is designed to reduce bagginess from your lower lids and excise excess skin from your upper lids. Read on to know how eyelid lift Beverly Hills can help you.

How Do You Fix Droopy Eyelids? Eyelid Lift Beverly Hills Can Help!

1. You’re Probably a Good Candidate

If you think you need an eyelid lift, there is a good chance that you are a good candidate. We most often correct droopy eyelids for clients who are 35 years of age or older. However, it is not rare for us to treat clients who are under the age of 35. If you have under-eye bags and/or drooping eyelids and you’re under 35, you may be a good candidate.

During your initial consultation, we will assess your current health and review your medical history and aesthetic goals to decide if this is the right procedure for you. You may be self-conscious about your upper eyelids. However, this may not be the right procedure to enhance your aesthetic. For instance, you may benefit more from Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin injections.

2. Preparation Is Simple

Some procedures require extensive, complicated preparation. Contrastingly, there are only a few pre-op steps you need to take for an eyelid lift. For instance, you must stop taking NSAIDs and MAOIs for two weeks pre-op, arrange for someone to drive you to and from your procedure, and arrange for someone to stay with you for the first 24 hours post-op.

You should also be properly hydrated before your procedure. This means you should drink between 64 and 128 ounces of water every day during the two weeks leading up to your procedure.

3. Preparing for Recovery Is Simple

Unlike more extensive procedures, preparing for recovery from blepharoplasty is a breeze. Make sure you have small gauze pads, ice cubes, an ice pack, eye drops, clean washcloths and towels, and over-the-counter analgesics at home. You may substitute a frozen bag of corn, peas, or ice for an ice pack.

During your initial consultation, we will advise you on which eye drops will best suit your needs. We will also advise you on the best over-the-counter analgesics to take. Avoid NSAIDs for the first two weeks post-op. Anyhow, you don’t need to worry since eyelid lift Beverly Hills is one of the best in the area.

4. The Recovery Itself Is a Breeze

You will need to sleep with your head elevated by two to three pillows for the first few days after your procedure. After 24 hours of being put under anesthesia, you are free to drive whenever you feel ready. You should avoid wearing contact lenses for two weeks post-op unless instructed by Dr. Justin Yovino, MD, FACS.

You should also avoid wearing eye makeup for two weeks post-op and may choose to avoid facial lotions and creams. You must not apply pressure to your eye, such as by rubbing, for one week post-op. You may not perm or color your hair for 10 days post-op. However, other than a few “don’ts” and getting plenty of rest, very little of your routine needs to change.

5. Getting a Lid Lift Is Painless

Many people are afraid to get a lid lift because they think the procedure will be painful. This is not the case. Double board-certified anesthesiologist Sarah Yovino, MD will work closely with you to choose the right combination of anesthesia and sedation to keep you comfortable during your procedure. Most often, this procedure is performed using an injected local anesthetic and oral sedation.

6. Getting a Full Lid Lift Is Straightforward

The entire eyelift procedure is straightforward and safe. Even if all four lids are being worked on, the procedure shouldn’t take over two hours. If Dr. Yovino is working on all four lids, he will work on the upper eyelids first. The incisions used will be made along the natural lines of your eyelids so they will not be visible.

Through these cuts, Dr. Yovino will separate the skin from the underlying tissue and remove excess fat and skin. If you have excess muscle, that will be excised, too. Then, the incisions will be closed with biodegradable stitches. This means you will not need to come back in to have the stitches removed. The incisions made on the lower lids may not require stitches.

7. There Are Several Possible Techniques for a Lower Lid Lift

While a lid lift is safe and straightforward, it is also customizable. Depending on your needs, Dr. Yovino may make an incision inside your lower eyelid to remove excess fat. Fine lines around the eyes can then be softened with a laser. If you have excess skin and muscle that also needs to be excised, Dr. Yovino will make an incision along your lower lash line.

8. Your Health Insurance Provider May Cover the Procedure

People often consider lid lifts to be a cosmetic procedure. However, there are medical indications. For example, if you are removing excess skin above your eyelids to improve your vision, your insurance company may reimburse you for the procedure or require you to only pay a co-pay and small amount to reach your deductible.

9. You Don’t Need to Pay for Your Procedure Upfront

One of the main reasons people don’t consider lid lifts to enhance their aesthetic is they are worried about the cost. If you can’t afford to pay for the entire procedure upfront, or if you’d prefer to pay it off over time, we’ve got you covered. We have partnered with CareCredit and Alphaeon Credit so you can make low monthly payments at a reasonable, affordable rate.

10. You May Only Need Lower Blepharoplasty

You may look at your eyelids in the mirror and think you need a full blepharoplasty. However, we can see your eyelids and facial structure objectively. You may only need lower blepharoplasty to achieve your ideal aesthetic.

Lower blepharoplasty can correct asymmetrical lower eyelids, remove bags from the under-eye area, eliminate dark under-eye circles, correct skin wrinkling, and reverse eyelid sagging.

11. The Results of the Procedure Are Long-Lasting

One of the most compelling benefits of an eyelid lift Beverly Hills is the results are incredibly long-lasting. Benefits from Botox may last between three to six months. However, the results of a lower lid lift are essentially permanent. As long as you don’t gain so much weight you accumulate fat under your eyes, you will not need a follow-up procedure.

The duration of results from an upper lid lift is also astonishing. Most of our clients are satisfied with the results of their procedure five to seven years post-op. Keep in mind, however, that the longevity of results varies on a case-by-case basis. If you are genetically predisposed to sagging eyelids, the results of your procedure may not last as long as someone with “better” genes.

12. You Can Extend the Duration of Your Results

None of us want to fall victim to the aging process. To extend the results of an upper lid lift, you need to take care of your skin. To prevent your upper eyelids from sagging, keep your skin tight by drinking enough water, limiting alcohol consumption, and abstaining from any nicotine consumption. You should also eat your fruits and veggies to get adequate nutrition.

If you find that your upper lids sag due to pressure from your forehead and eyebrows, you may only need a Botox brow lift to tighten the forehead muscles. Smoothing your brow skin and tightening your brow muscles will reduce the pressure on your upper eyelids and delay your need for a touch-up procedure.

13. You Can Get This Procedure Along With Other Procedures

If your eyelids aren’t the only facial feature that dismay you, you can safely and easily receive other anti-aging procedures at the same time. For instance, you may benefit from nose reshaping, ear surgery, a neck lift, or a facelift.

If you are having several procedures performed on the same day, you will most likely be put under general anesthesia. If you are experiencing significant volume loss as part of the natural aging process, you may benefit from facial implants to shave years off your face and look healthier than you have in years.

14. You Can Receive This Procedure Along With Anti-Aging Treatments

Maybe you don’t need a second or third procedure to perfect your aesthetic. But your face could still use a little extra help. We are excited to offer several anti-aging and skincare treatments that perfectly complement a lid lift perfectly. For instance, we offer facial laser resurfacing to improve elasticity, reverse hyperpigmentation, eliminate age spots and more.

15. Dermal Fillers May Complement or Replace a Lid Lift

We pride ourselves in thoroughly evaluating our clients and only offering them the best services for their unique needs. We will never try to sell you a service you don’t need. Some clients come in for an initial consultation thinking that they need a lid lift. However, they may discover that they really only need dermal fillers to achieve their ideal aesthetic.

Dermal fillers naturally tighten the skin. If your only cosmetic concern is the appearance of loose skin, a 15- to 30-minute dermal filler treatment may be all you need. Or, you can use these quick, painless injections to extend the duration of your procedure’s results. The needles used for these treatments are so fine that they cause no pain. However, topical anesthesia is available upon request.

16. Microneedling With PRP Will Extend the Results of Your Procedure

Microneedling with PRP will not eliminate your need for a lid lift if you have excess skin, fat, or muscle. However, this quick, affordable treatment will drastically extend the results of your lid lift. Microneedling is also known as collagen induction therapy because it encourages your body to produce more collagen. Collagen keeps your skin tight and hydrated.

More importantly, PRP is very rich in stem cells and human growth factors. These chemical compounds play critical roles in keeping your skin tight, young and healthy.
