Eyelid Lift
Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Lift)
Eyelid lifts are performed to address sagging or puffiness in the upper eyelid area, which may result from aging or excess fatty tissue. While age-related changes often cause the eyelids and brows to droop due to skin laxity and weakened muscle tone, younger patients may require an eyelid lift primarily to remove localized fat deposits. In these cases, the procedure can often be done with no visible external scar, as the incision may be placed inside the eyelid. For older individuals, however, the approach typically involves the removal of excess skin and tightening of underlying muscles to correct more advanced sagging—achieving a smoother, more youthful contour that fat removal alone cannot provide.
Whether the patient is older or younger, underlying pockets of fat will be removed through incisions in the eyelids that are performed in the natural folds and creases already present. The underlying skin and muscle tissues will be separated from fatty tissues, and any excess skin and/or fat that needs to be removed is excised. Dr. Yovino also takes this opportunity to tighten muscles so that no bags or hollowing occurs. In eyelid lifts, the tiny incisions are then closed and over time, the scars heal until they are nearly imperceptible.
Is Blepharoplasty Safe?
An eyelid lift is a safe procedure, and it is the only permanent way to improve the sagging appearance of lower or upper eyelids. Not only can eyelid rejuvenation improve a patient’s appearance, but lifting sagging skin can also help to improve vision that has become impeded. Best of all, the entire procedure is performed on an outpatient basis.
